Chapter 25

IAN

“Get Whitfield on the phone and tell him he’s a dick.” I puff out my cheeks and drag my hands down my face. “Then tell him he can suck mine.” Assuming I can keep Katie off it for more than a few days. She always gets first dibs on Little Ian. Whitfield can wait in line.

Valerie rolls her eyes with a shake of her head. “I’d rather not, if it’s all right with you.”

I pick up a wad of discarded paper and shoot it on top of her head. Like the pro I am, I make it bounce off her scalp and land right in the trashcan beside her. Valerie acts like she didn’t feel a thing, but I can already feel my comeuppance on the horizon.

What can I say? It’s Tuesday, and I’m in the damn office. The office! The place I avoid as much as possible, because I am not a businessman who can be restricted to busy downtown offices and these God damn neckties I have to wear whenever I come down! Yet ever since my father gave me more control of the company, I’m in here at least twice a week, chained to the CEO’s desk and holding back the whiny sobs of a boy who was destined for a better life.

God, I am so dramatic. My mother would be proud. My father would probably fall in love with me. He loves dramatic, whiny office buddies! That’s why he married one!

Whitfield is a douchebag who has been pissing me off more often than not. The bastard is all the way in New York City, but he somehow has an arm long enough to reach through my office window and slap me across the cheek. When he’s not yanking my chain about our partnership on a hotel in Manhattan, anyway. We’ve finally overcome the remodeling drama. Now we’re on the cusp of reopening to the public. Our original excitement stemmed from the sheer size of the project and the low rates we could offer the rooms, making them prime marketing targets to middle-class tourists. First thing my father taught me was that there is no shame in marketing to the non-rich, if you can afford it. They are where the long-term money is, after all. “The rich people will put your name on the map, son,” he told me when I was fifteen years old and shadowing him when I had the time. “But it’s the little people who keep you on the map. Be good to them, and they will be great to you.”

I’ve kept that to heart. Which is probably why business is better than ever, but my take-home pay has gone down since taking over. I’m sacrificing more of my paycheck to give out raises while hiring more people. I blame Kathryn for this burst of morality these past few years. The more I fuck her, the more money I bleed.

Hope you like your bonuses, Valerie! You can directly thank my fiancée’s pussy, if you don’t already.
